Sermon Notes         Follow Orders Josh 7:1-26                        Sept 14, 2008

 Disobedience brings defeat (v. 1-5)

·         We should evaluate everything we do through the grid of prayer and His word—the movies we watch, the stuff we listen to and read, where we go, what we eat and drink.

·         As a church, we should not begin new ministries, building programs or even encourage new people to attend, if we are not dealing with the sin in the camp. I Cor 3:1-3

·         Yes, you! Teen, Senior, Shy, Outgoing, Just here Sunday morning. I know you’re only one person and you think, “it’s not that big a deal”, but your sin or my sin may be the reason we aren’t seeing more lives changed here. And if you aren’t growing spiritually, who do you think is responsible?

Disobedience brings discouragement (v. 6-13)

·         I Cor 15:34

·         Listen! We all sin. Most of us have a sin that we really battle with at times. It’s not the person who battles to beat their sin that defeats and discourages the body (we have all been there). It is the brother or sister who doesn’t give a “hoot” about their sin, or doesn't think it’s anyone else’s business.

·         If a brother or sister is in sin and you know it, you must talk to them about it lovingly, gently

·         Matt 18:15-17, Gal 6:1; II Tim 2:24-26

Disobedience brings disgrace (v. 14-24)

·         Joshua 6:18

·         Is your Heavenly Father proud of you?

·         Is it OK to tell people that you attend WABC? What will your acquaintances thing about your brothers and sisters, based on your behavior?

·         How will people remember you? What memories will they have? Is the world a better place because you were here?

Disobedience brings discipline (v. 25-26)

·         The opposite of Rahab. Her faith and the faith of her family saved them. Achan’s sin and the sin of his family obliterated the family name. God takes sin seriously!

·         Hebrews 12:6; I John 1:9
