Sermon Notes     Remember Your Victories

 Joshua 3:5

To be victorious: Follow your commander

·        The ark represents Johovah Elohim = the eternal, self-existent, divine ruler over all that exists. It represents his promises. It guarantees his word and reputation.

To be victorious: Stand firm (Joshua 4:10-11; 15-18)

·        Don’t be controlled by fear

·        Don’t quit before the Lord says, “It’s time to stop.”

·        Fear and frustration caused 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. We need to live by faith, not by sight or by what might happen.

To be victorious: Be prepared for battle (4:12-14)

·        When we receive Christ as Savior, we are ready to follow him wherever he leads. But we may become spiritually lazy, enjoying R & R everyday. We don’t keep our spiritual weapons clean and we forget our armor. Let’s be committed soldiers, prepare for battle every day.

To be victorious: Remember past victories (4:1-9;  19-24)

·        Three memorials/reminders:

1.      Altar on the west side Joshua 22:28

2.      Memorial in the water Joshua 4:9

3.      Memorial at Gilgal

·        Remind yourself (4:6) personal memory

·        Remind your children (4:6) parent’s job

·        Remind your descendents (4:21, 7) people of Israel

·        Remind your world (4:24) population
